Dr. Mould Receives Another Honor

Dr. Diane Mould was awarded the Jack L Beal Alumni Award by the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. The award will be presented May 7 in Columbus. To receive the award the recipients must have a professional degree (B.S., M.S., Pharm.D.) from the OSU College of Pharmacy, have made distinguished contributions in the fields of public health and public service, have performed outstanding activities in the interest of the College and its students, and have an outstanding record in the profession of pharmacy. Congratulations Diane!

24 Hours of LeMons

Diane Mould and Steve Molnar competed in the 24 hours of LeMons, yes you read that right, Lemons not Le Mans. It is a 24 hour race where teams drive cars that are lemons. They drove a 1992 Toyota Paseo with two other drivers, John Dean and Johnny Kanavas. The event was full of challenges from a crowded track to inclement weather. The finished 7th overall out of 128 car. Congratulation on a great race!

Dr. Mould Lectures in Korea

Dr. Diane Mould was invited to speak at the Korean Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics joint conference held in Seoul, Korea. She lectured on disease progression modeling to over 100 attendants.

Dr. Mould lectures in China

Dr. Diane Mould was invited by the Chinese government and the National Institute of Health, to give a course lecture on clinical pharmacology in Bejing. The lecture covered such topics as population pharmacokinetics and disease progression modeling. There were 70 people in attendance for the hour long lecture. Dr. Mould is pictured with Dr Juan Lertora, head of the department of clinical pharmacology at the NIH.

Diane & Steve take on Watkins Glen

The famous Watkins Glen in NY was where Steve and Diane tore up the track in the Mazda Cup Series. Diane is in car 26 with the single stripe on the hood and Steve is in car 59 with a double stripe on the hood. Although it rained during the Saturday race they both drove well and kept the cars out of the armco, an impressive feat at the Glen! Sunday fortunately brought out the sun and a dry track which enabled them to race even faster and with better results. Next stop, Road America, Elkheart Lake, WI in August.

Dr. Bruce Green is the Global Advisor to the Population Approach Group of India (PAGIN), a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to train people to use model-based population approach methods for data analysis in India. PAGIN hosted its 2nd Introductory Workshop on Population Methods, April 20-23, 2009 at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India and Bruce attended as an instructor. A preponderance of zeros may occur with several types of data. With interval data one may have a large proportion of actual zero values. For example, if income is the response being modeled, there could be many subjects with no income. With ordinal data one may be faced with the problem that most subjects have all zero values. If adverse event data is being modeled and 0 reflects no adverse event, then one might have a large fraction of subjects with all zero values. PRI in conjunction with several pharmaceutical companies has been exploring ways to model such responses. These include altered zero, added zero, mover-stayer, and sojourn models to name a few.

Bill's Blog

Approaching his two year anniversary with PRI, Bill began to clean his basement for the upcoming celebration. He found several hundred vintage Ampex tape reels. The tape was badly decomposed but he got the idea of making the reels into battery powered clocks to sell. One more excuse to go to the barn and weld!

With the 2007 transition both in editorial leadership and publisher (Nature) complete, the principle journal for the discipline of pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, is now moving forward with other initiatives to improve the journal, which includes building the Editorial Board.

Comprised of ~60 subject matter experts across the fields of pharmacology and clinical pharmacology, the Editorial Board serves as the backbone for the high quality content of the journal. We are populating the Editorial Board with experts from academia, government, and pharma, while maintaining diversity to reflect the demographics in authors and readership.

We believe your participation on the Editorial Board is important to its future success and invite you to join this outstanding team of experts. Your responsibilities would include reviewing ~10 manuscripts each year, providing topical and authorial suggestions for contributions to the journal, contributing articles on occasion to the journal, and participating in the Editorial Board Meeting at the annual ASCPT meeting.

After Laguna Seca PRI has two, yes two, top ten drivers! Steve Molnar is currently in 9th place overall and Diane Mould is currently in 10th place overall out of 27 drivers! The next event in the series is in Watkins Glen, NY. Stay tuned!

Diane and Steve were on the track again, this time in Homestead, FL at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. This was their first time racing in the Skip Barber MX Cup Series. Stay tuned they race again at Laguna Seca in March!

ProMoMo Speed Inc. is changing gears

ProMoMo Speed Inc. is changing gears in 2009. Continuing to test our driving prowess in different formats we are racing in a new series, the Skip Barber Mazda Speed Series. Along with that we will also be doing the Michelin Challenge Series with our super-modified Dodge Vipers. We drive road course events, which involves both speed and technical skill, and have placed as regional and national champions. Check back to see our results and photos.

PRI has been working on pharmacodynamic models that can handle 0 data values effectively. In some cases, the pharmacodynamic effects of a drug can remove or decrease a pharmacodynamic response to a 0 value, which can result in numerical instability. PRI is now investigating methods of handling these 0 values. We will provide more on this topic in the next installment!

2008 Racing Circuit Update

After 5 of the 12 races this season and a rough start with engine problems for car #69 in the first 3 events, Steve is currently in first place in the western region and in 2nd place in the eastern region and Diane is running 2nd in the western region and 4th in the eastern region. The most recent event, Mid Ohio, saw cold temperatures and slippery track conditions. Despite numerous accidents by other contenders, Steve and Diane finished the event but failed to take podium positions.

Bruce Green's surfing progress...

In an attempt to fit in with the natives, Bruce’s new hobby is surfing. He’s been learning for 6 months now and can surf in with long rides on a point break on his 9 foot 6 inch Mal. Bruce has discovered a new place to surf down at the Gold Coast called Snapper Rocks at Rainbow Bay. It’s a favorite of American surf legend Kelly Slater and is particularly good because it has nicely formed regular waves that give long rides. Armed with a new wetsuit, Bruce is hoping to surf well into the Queensland winter.

PRI provides training on topics such as: Introduction to Modeling and Simulation in Nonmem (this is a three day course) Advanced Topics in Modeling and Simulation - this can cover a variety of topics such as changes in Nonmem VI, Mixture Models and can be provided as a short series of lectures over the web or on site.
